Sensei Rick Jorgensen of Canada has been studying Traditional Karate under the tutelage of Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama since the early 1970’s and was examined and received each of his 7 Dan black belt levels from Sensei Nishiyama. He also travelled with Master Nishiyama for nearly 30 years directly as part of the International Traditional Karate Federation’s (ITKF) Working Committee pursuing recognition by the IOC and unification with WUKO and has been a member of the ITKF Board of Directors for 30 years and ITKF Technical Committee for 15 years.

Following Sensei Nishiyama’s passing in 2008, Sensei Jorgensen was appointed as President and Chairman of the ITKF and Chairman of the ITKF Technical Committee, responsibilities that he fulfills currently.

He has extensive international experience as a Technical Judge and Examiner for the ITKF having participated in International and World competitions since the early 1980’s He holds the highest ITKF certification possible for these activities. He has also successfully coached many athletes to the national and world stage medalists and World Champions.

Professionally, Mr. Jorgensen has operated his own marketing and communications firm for more than 35 years. He has facilitated strategic planning for a number of businesses and not-for-profit organizations and has acted as a consultant on complex social policy issues for government agencies.

In Canada, Mr. Jorgensen is well known for his authorship of the Level 1 Manual of the National Coaches Certification Program approved by the Coaching Association of Canada to certify Karate coaches as part of the recognized coaches training program of Sport Canada. His executive skills and technical training are well suited to his leadership role in a number of Karate organizations in which he is involved both at the national and international level.
